A Guide to Choosing Cleaning Products for Different Surfaces

There is no single cleaning product that is ideal for every surface. The safest starting point is the surface manufacturer’s care information.

Read labels

Check dilution instructions, compatible materials, ventilation requirements and warnings. Never mix products unless the label specifically says they can be combined.

Use the least aggressive suitable method

Start with an appropriate mild method and increase intensity only when necessary. Abrasives and strong chemicals can damage finishes, sealants, coatings and natural materials.

  1. The upholstery advice is sensible. Testing a product on a hidden area first is a good precaution.
